A Taste of Home: Why Rodo Bar in Luton is My Go-To Spot
Not long after I arrived in the UK, I was craving a real, authentic taste of home. That search eventually led me to Rodo Bar in Luton (formerly Dudu Bar)—a local Black owned Nigerian restaurant and lounge that completely changed things for me. From my very first visit, it gave me that comforting warmth I’d been missing since leaving Nigeria.
What makes Rodo Bar stand out isn't just that they serve Nigerian food; it’s how good and authentic it actually is. Their menu covers all the classics, from smoky Jollof rice, rice with Ayamase sauce to Nigerian-style shawarma. But my absolute favourite—and the main reason I keep going back—is their Amala, served with rich, flavourful Abula. It was the first proper taste away from home I had in the UK, and if you know how much comfort food can lift your spirits when you're living abroad, you know that first good meal stays with you.
Beyond the food, Rodo Bar just has an energy that sets it apart. They regularly host events that give you that full, vibrant Lagos party vibe right in Luton. Between the music, the live performances, and the overall vibes of the place, stepping into Rodo Bar feels way more like a weekend celebration than just going out for dinner. Plus, the staff are super welcoming, which makes the whole experience even better.
Celebrating Black-owned businesses like Rodo Bar during Black History Month is so important because these places do way more than just sell food. They build community, give international students a home away from home, and share our rich culture with everyone.
Whether you’re looking for a spot to celebrate a birthday with friends, craving a proper plate of Amala and Abula, or just want to experience that Lagos party atmosphere, I genuinely can’t recommend Rodo Bar enough. It’s a local gem that deserves all the recognition!
