Pursuing a master’s degree abroad wasn’t a spontaneous decision—it was the result of years of dreaming, planning, working hard, and quietly holding on to a vision that once felt distant. Choosing postgraduate study in the creative arts has helped me step into the version of myself I’ve always aspired to be: an artist, a producer, and a creator.
Music and the arts have been the heartbeat of my life since I was 11. From singing and playing instruments to producing my own songs, I’ve always been fascinated by the way sound can tell stories and help people express themselves. I studied Business Strategy for my undergraduate degree in Mexico, which gave me a strong understanding of how the creative industries operate. But as I graduated, I knew something was missing.
I didn’t just want to work in the industry—I wanted to help shape it.
That’s when the dream began to take a more concrete form: I wanted to open my own music studio. A space where I could collaborate with other artists, especially emerging voices. A place that fused high-quality production with heart, culture, and purpose.
To make that dream a reality, I knew I needed to grow—not just as a musician, but as a producer, sound designer, and creative leader.
So, I began researching postgraduate courses around the world.
What made the University of Hertfordshire stand out to me was how the course blends technical expertise with creative exploration. The MA in Creative Music Production is about becoming the kind of producer who can lead their own artistic vision. When I received my acceptance letter, it felt like a door opening to everything I had been working toward.
Now that I’m here, I can say with my whole heart: it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve deepened my skills in mixing, mastering, synthesis, and audio storytelling.
I’ve explored how music functions in film, games, and immersive environments. Most importantly, I’ve found a community—other creatives who challenge and inspire me every day. We come from all around the world, and that diversity has opened my ears and mind to so many new ways of creating music.
My dream of opening a studio no longer feels distant. Every assignment, every class, every session is shaping the future I want to build. I imagine a space filled with light, instruments, and joy—where artists feel empowered. Where I can use my voice not just as a singer or songwriter, but as a producer who brings out the best in others.
Being at Herts has given me more than an excellent education—it’s given me confidence, community, and clarity. The support from my lecturers, the access to state-of-the-art facilities, and the creative freedom I’ve found here have all helped me grow faster than I ever expected.
It’s a place where dreams are taken seriously, and students are encouraged to lead with vision and purpose. I’m proud to be part of this university, and even prouder to share my journey as a student ambassador.
