Mental Health Week: Top 10 Picnic Locations in Hertfordshire


 

The month of July is actually National Picnic month, and it is the perfect month for it as usually the weather is great too! Who doesn’t love a picnic in the sunshine with a few friends or family? Picnics are a great way to spend time with the people you love and explore the countryside near you.  
 
Before you have your picnic you firstly need to decide where you are going to have it! You’ll want somewhere quiet, among nature, with a lot of space and some beautiful views, right?  Well, to help you out a bit we’ve put together a list of the perfect places to picnic in and around Herts:  
 
 

1. Fir and Pond woods, Potters Bar 


Fir and Pond woods in Potters Bar is a great place for a picnic! It is a woodland reserve with a huge meadow and a medieval fishpond. Not only is there lots of space for you to sit and have your snacks but the place is full of wildlife for you to watch while you’re there! 



2. Hertford Heath Nature Reserve, Hertford 

This nature reserve is made up of an open heath-land (The Roundings) and a woodland area. The Roundings is the perfect place for a picnic as there is lots of space for you to relax and unwind! 



 

 

3. Memorial Garden, Tring 


Tring Memorial gardens are so beautiful, especially when the sun is shining. There are always lots of bird around and it is very peaceful – the perfect place for a picnic! 



 

 

4. The Nickey Line, Harpenden 


The Nickey Line was a former railway line which is now a 7 mile long footpath and cycle way! This is the perfect picnic place to go if you wanted to have a bike ride or a short walk. There are loads of areas along the way for you to stop and have your picnic too! 



 

 
5. Aldenham Country Park, Elstree 


This is the perfect spot for a day out with the family! There is some amazing scenery, lakeside walks and acres of land – perfect for having a picnic! 



 

 

6. Rickmansworth Aquadrome 


This is a great place for lots of nice walks and there are lots of picnic areas too! So you to sit down, eat some snacks and watch the world go by! 



 

 

7. Layston Court Gardens, Buntingford 


Layston Court Gardens is the perfect place for a peaceful afternoon picnic. There are lots of flowers and lots of green areas for you to take a rest and have your picnic! 



 

 

8. River Hiz, Hitchin 


If you preview river views, this is the perfect picnic spot for you! This is the focal point of Hitchin town and is a great place for a picnic! There are also lots of wildlife around the area too! 



 

 

9. Hatfield House 


Hatfield House Gardens are a great place to go for a picnic! From the 4 July until the 3 August, there are also lots of outdoor activities happening for you to enjoy while you have your picnic! Including, picnic movies and drive-in films! Check them outhere. 



 

 

10. Knebworth House
