Living the dream: studying in the UK

Coming to the UK to study was one of the biggest and boldest decisions of my life. As someone who always dreamed of studying abroad, getting accepted into the MSc International Business course felt like the start of a new chapter. It’s been a journey of growth, learning, and adjustment—but one that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Why I chose Herts to study International Business

One thing I’ve really appreciated about my course is how informative and well-structured it is. The module leaders and programme leaders have been incredibly approachable whenever I’ve had doubts. No matter how small the question, they’ve always made time to help and explain. My academic tutor has also been very supportive, especially when it comes to assignments. From breaking down expectations to giving constructive feedback, they’ve helped me build confidence in my writing and critical thinking.

The university offers great resources too. I often spend time in the library—it’s quiet, well-equipped, and a great place to focus. The CASE (Centre for Academic Skills Enhancement) team has also been a huge help, particularly when I needed guidance on structuring essays or referencing correctly. As someone adapting to a different academic system that support has made a big difference.

Studying International Business has really opened my eyes to how global companies operate and the complex factors they face. I now find myself looking at business news and applying what I’ve learned in class which makes the learning feel so much more real.

I’ve developed important skills that I know will help me in my future career—things like cross-cultural communication, market analysis and strategic thinking. Working in group projects with students from different countries has taught me how to collaborate across cultures which is something I know employers value.

I’ve also attended guest lectures. Guest lecture by Dr. Ricky Wong on supply chain management really stood out for me, as he shared real-world insights into global logistics challenges and innovative solutions that bridged theory with practice. It’s helped me explore career paths—whether that’s consulting, working with multinational companies or even launching something of my own one day.

After completing my course, I hope to work in a global business environment, applying what I’ve learned. My dream is to travel, connect with people from different cultures and solve real-world business challenges. Eventually, I’d love to support businesses back home in India and help them grow internationally.

Living on campus: community, comfort, culture

Living on campus has been one of the best parts of my experience. It gave me a chance to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures, and honestly, it made settling into university life so much easier. From spontaneous chats in the common room to late-night study sessions in the library, being on campus helped me build connections and feel a real sense of community. It also feels safe and convenient, making it easy to explore the gym, cafés, workshops and other university facilities. It’s definitely made the whole experience more fun, comfortable and fulfilling.

Balancing the highs and lows of postgrad life

Being an international student comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to balancing academics with social life. There are times when it gets tough—missing home, navigating a new culture, and dealing with heavy coursework all at once.

But I’ve learned that making new friends and staying socially active is just as important as attending lectures. Whether it’s grabbing a coffee with classmates or exploring the city on weekends, those little moments really help ease homesickness. I’ve enjoyed visiting places like St Albans Cathedral and exploring iconic spots around London, which have made my time here even more memorable.

Thinking about postgraduate study?

Postgraduate life isn’t always easy, but every challenge has made me stronger. I’ve learned how to manage my time, ask for help, and adapt to new environments. If you’re considering postgraduate study—especially as an international student—go for it. Be open to the experience, make connections, and step outside your comfort zone. It’s not just about getting a degree—it’s about discovering who you are and what you’re capable of.
